22 October SAE International, the international community of automotive engineers, has introduced a modern way to charge an electric car – wireless charging. The new standard, SAE J2954, will ensure wireless charging for transport. The whole process will be simplified by doing away with the plug-in<\/em> (plug and socket) principle.<\/p>\n\n

SAE engineers have been working on this project for more than a decade – since 2007. until now. Easier charging is expected to accelerate the spread of electric vehicles (EVs) and self-driving cars.<\/p>\n\n

“Charging an electric car should be very easy. Just like parking and walking away,” says Jesse Schneider, Chair of the SAE J2954 Working Group.<\/p>\n\n

Wireless charging gives the driver the freedom, convenience, safety and automation to recharge the EV.<\/p>\n\n

Wireless charging works when the car is parked above the SAE J2954 prefabricated ground pad. The equipment then starts to interact with the charging element attached to the bottom of the EV. The energy is transferred through the magnetic field created.<\/p>\n\n

The efficiency of this charging method is as high as 94%. The electric car’s batteries can be recharged up to 11 kW.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
