The apparent increase in the number of electric cars in Lithuania these days is no longer surprising to many. Compared to 2020, the number of newly registered electric cars in Lithuania in 2021 has tripled. Although it is too early to provide official statistics on the growth of the number of electric cars in 2022, it is predicted that the number of electric cars on the streets of Lithuania will continue to grow rapidly. <br>

Alongside the growing number of electric vehicles, the demand for charging stations is also increasing, and is increasingly being felt in public and semi-public car parks near various business locations.

Key drivers for the development of electric vehicle infrastructure

Earlier this year, Lithuania adopted amendments to the law which require that, from now on, when new residential and non-residential buildings are built or old ones are renovated, at least 20% of the parking spaces in these buildings must be equipped with an electric vehicle infrastructure that allows for easy installation of charging stations for electric vehicles.

The importance of sustainable, electric transport in Europe has also been reinforced by Russia’s war against Ukraine. The significant increase in the price of gas and oil products as a result of the war has highlighted the dependence of central and western Europe on energy imports from Russia and Belarus. Having experienced the obvious increase in energy prices, Lithuanian and foreign politicians are already making public announcements to reduce the burden of this energy dependence and to focus more on energy extraction in Europe. This could also be a good opportunity to develop the infrastructure needed for a sustainable electric transport sector.

New laws and changing trends in the transport sector are encouraging businesses to think more and more about installing charging stations for electric vehicles. Although not every business is willing to invest its own money in such infrastructure development, the number of charging stations at business premises is increasing. A major influence on this development of electric vehicle infrastructure is the provision of electric vehicle charging station rental services to businesses.

Additional income for businesses

One of the main reasons why businesses are increasingly turning to EV charging station rental is the opportunity to earn extra income without making large investments. EV charging stations installed in business or shopping centre car parks can be charged to the end user under a rental agreement. This means that each driver pays a fixed price for the EV charging service provided. The business is left with a profit after covering the electricity costs incurred.

We can provide the charging equipment free of charge, as well as the installation and maintenance. There are even several different charging station installation plans that businesses can choose individually, depending on their needs and the number of charging stations they want. The charging stations are connected to an online platform when they are rented. The facility’s electricity grid is securely managed, ensuring efficient use of energy resources. It is also easy to administer, view charging reports, set pricing, user access, etc.

The principle of the electric car charging service.

Of course, while the additional income generated by the rental of electric vehicle charging stations depends on the number of people using the charging stations, it should be remembered that this does not require a large investment and the number of electric vehicles is growing. Many car manufacturers say they are increasing the production of electric cars and some of them promise to discontinue the production of cars with internal combustion engines in the near future. Such trends will undoubtedly have an impact on the number of electric vehicles not only abroad but also in Lithuania.

A phenomenon shaping the image of innovative business

Businesses, supermarkets, catering establishments, hotels and other public places that offer publicly accessible charging stations are particularly appreciated by EV drivers. The ability to charge an electric vehicle often also provides added value to the business for drivers of this type of vehicle, which will only increase in importance in the future. Businesses upgrading car parks or using EV charging can easily demonstrate their values and innovative approach to the changing trends in the transport sector.

Businesses using the EV charging station rental service can also reimburse their employees for charging sessions for their personal EVs, thus adding value to their business. Meanwhile, parking lots of business premises close to apartment buildings with charging stations can provide an excellent place to charge the electric cars driven by the residents of these buildings during the night. Charging stations used at night by apartment dwellers would help to improve the accessibility of the EV charging infrastructure and generate additional revenue for businesses.
