Chinese electric car manufacturer NIO is launching a fresh version of its battery swap station – the Power Swap Station 2.0. The facility provides fully charged batteries for all NIO models.
“The NIO system is an alternative to conventional electric vehicle charging stations. No need to wait for the empty EV battery to recharge – the mechanisms replace it with an already charged cell. The action takes up to 5 minutes.
The modern bus stop does not require human touch – it operates entirely automatically. Even parking your car in a dedicated space is self-driving. The station can replace up to 312 batteries per day, i.e. y. three times more than the previous version.
The battery change station holds a total of 14 cells: 13 battery packs and 1 dead or old battery. There is also a separate section for car parking.
There are currently over 170 Power Swap 2.0 stations in China. NIO’s battery exchange network in China is expected to reach 500 units by the end of this year.
The improved new battery change station will serve different power packs: 70 kWh, 84 kWh, 100 kWh and the future 150 kWh cells.
“NIO scientists never cease to amaze. By the end of 2022, the carmaker plans to release battery packs with incredible power – as much as 150 kWh. The new cells will have half the energy density of 100 kWh batteries.
Future batteries promise to have longer lifetimes and better charging performance.
“The NIO allows battery upgrades for older EV models. So with a 150 kWh battery, the 2018 NIO ES8 will have an impressive range of 730 km.
NIO’s more modern EVs with the new battery pack will have a significant increase in rpm: the ES8 will cover 850 km and the ES6 and EC6 around 900 km. This is equivalent to the direct distance between Lithuania and Germany.
